How Do You Plan an Itinerary for Vietnam?

The majority of our customers stay in Vietnam for 7–15 days, visiting Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hoi An, Ho Chi Minh City, and the Mekong Delta. But because of the holidays they had available, their routines have been a little bit altered.

You are advised to spend 7–10 days exploring the best of Vietnam and the Mekong Delta in order to thoroughly immerse yourself in the country. Or visit a couple of Vietnamese cities before traveling to another Southeast Asian nation. Popular routes include Vietnam-Thailand, Vietnam-Cambodia, and Vietnam-Laos.

90% of our customers choose two to three weeks for their first vacation to Southeast Asia. The most popular itineraries often include Cambodia, Vietnam, and Thailand (Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket/Koh Samui), as well as Halong Bay, Hanoi, Hoi An, and the Mekong Delta (Angkor Wat). Use our 19-Day Highlights of Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam as inspiration.

You can take a trip of 20 to 30 days and have a thorough tour of the entire peninsula region (Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Laos). For further information, see our 28-Day Grand Indochina Tour.

The itineraries shown above are merely examples for your reference. You are welcome to get in touch with your personal, knowledgeable 1:1 tour adviser for a custom itinerary.

How Much Does a Vietnam Trip Charge?

The overseas flights can make up the majority of your tour expenses. For various routes, the cost of travel varies greatly. So, prior to booking, compare prices. Consult your consultant; they may be able to negotiate a better price.

Domestic flights in Vietnam are relatively reasonably priced. For instance, a single economy class flight in low season runs about US$80. The cost of flying from Vietnam to other Southeast Asian nations is comparable.

You can take a private day tour in Vietnam for between $100 and $150 per person. The price decreases as your group size increases. Your tour will be made more enjoyable by your knowledgeable guide and diligent drive.

The cost of a hotel room varies, depending on the property's features. It would be preferable to categorize Vietnamese hotels as "Comfortable" or "Boutique" (US$50-100 per room), "Luxury" (US$150-200 per room), or "Guesthouse" (from US$10 per room), as Vietnam's system differs from worldwide hotel star ratings

You may choose to eat cheap street food for just $1–$2 per meal, luxury fare for just $20–$50 per meal, or anything in between.

What Time of Year Is Best to Visit Vietnam?

  • Dec. to Mar. for warm and dry weather
  • March through October offer the best deals and fewer crowds.
There are fewer temperature extremes than in inland countries since the country is long and thin, running from north to south, and has a long coast.

December - March

Vietnam enjoys the most agreeable weather throughout this season. Additionally, you can experience the festive atmosphere of occasions like Christmas, New Year's, and Tet (Vietnamese New Year, during January or February).

Hotels are quickly booked up during this high season, and tour prices increase proportionately. You should plan your tour at least three months in advance due to the strong demand.

Traveling during the Tet celebration will restrict your options for sightseeing, shopping, and dining (due to some places closing for the holiday). The Mekong Delta will be closed for at least the first four days of Tet, although major cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are still fine to visit.

March - April

For those looking for a good balance between cost and weather, this is the perfect time to travel.

Red kapok, yellow canola flowers, white plum blossoms, and pink peach flowers are just a few of the blooming flowers that create a beautiful scene. They can be found in Hoi An's flower villages or in the northern Vietnamese countryside.

May - November

If you go to Vietnam during the rainy season, you can save money (US$200-400 less per person for a 10-day tour) and encounter less tourists.

The nature of its long, S-shaped coastline helps to make rainy days less frequent. You may enjoy the most of the day because the rain typically falls in the late afternoon or evening. It is advised to go outside in the morning and to bring rain gear.

In Central Vietnam, typhoons are more likely to occur in October than in Northern Vietnam's July and August. In order to accommodate changes, having a flexible itinerary and purchasing travel insurance are beneficial.
