Ha Noi

The capital city of Vietnam is one of Vietnam’s best cities to visit. Boasting over “a thousand years of culture”, Hanoi is an enticing city of opposites; historical buildings may stand side by side with skyscrapers. Although history has taken its toll, many sites can still be visited for a glimpse into the city’s glorious past, such as the Old Quarters or the Temple of Literature-Imperial Academy complex.

The best time to visit Hanoi is from October to April. The city’s famous autumn begins in October, turning many streets into locations for photo-ops with golden rains of leaves in the crisp, chill air.

Ho Chi Minh City

Ho Chi Minh City – formerly known as Saigon, this vibrant city is bathed in sunlight year-round. It’s Hanoi’s younger sibling, cosmopolitan and welcoming, yet still houses an array of historical relics. A trip here may well turn into a pleasant blur, as there are always more temples, pagodas, markets, and buildings to see.  Besides, Ho Chi Minh City has many Vietnam must-try food such as Com TamBun Thit Nuong,…

Traveling to Ho Chi Minh City is ideal from December to April, especially if you want to escape the biting Northern winter for the endless summer of the South. As this is the dry season, you also don’t need to worry about rain interrupting your trip.

Ha Long Bay

One of the most beautiful places in Vietnam, this bay has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site thanks to thousands of limestone karsts and isles in untold shapes and sizes, each with unique names and stories to tell.

The peak season to visit the Bay is October to December and January to April, offering travelers less-crowded sights and comfortable temperatures, as well as reduced risks of storms and typhoons.

Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park

This National Park is a must-visit for any cave enthusiast, as it houses Son Doong cave – the largest cave in the world. The park’s cave system consists of 300 caves and grottoes at varying levels of accessibility, but most of it remains unexplored, or at least partially so.

Phong Nha truly shines in the hot summer months of June to August, when the plants are verdant, the water turquoise, and the dry roads accessible. For people less used to heat, March and April offer an alternative as the weather turns warmer and the rain eases up.

Hoi An

Throughout the rises and falls of history, Hoi An has gone from a little settlement to a vibrant harbor by the river to derelict ruins abandoned by people fleeing war and seeking their fortunes elsewhere. Today, the Old Town stands as an exemplary specimen of a prosperous harbor town at the intersection of trade lines and cultures. Food in Hoi An is a must for any visitor travelling in town. Dont forget to explore Hoi An cuisine and tailor your clothes!

Late February to April is the ideal time for visiting this charming city when there is less rain and pleasant weather.

Da Nang

Here in Da Nang, even public beaches can lay claim to clear blue waters and impeccably clean white sand that sparkles under the sunlight. Don’t miss out on the Bana Hill & The Goldern Bridge – an impressive architecture of the modern time when you are here.  In addition, staying in Da Nang as a base, we can also visit many places around such as My Son temple complex: the erstwhile religious and cultural center of the Kingdom of Champa. Comparable to sites such as Angkor Wat, My Son is the only place of worship for ancient Hinduism remaining in Vietnam.

January to July, especially from February to May, is when most tourists flock to Da Nang to enjoy its beaches and sights in the summer sun of the dry season.

Hue

Hue used to be the former capital of Vietnam under the Tay Son dynasty (1788–1801) and the Nguyen dynasty (Hue). This former capital of the Nguyen Dynasty still preserves many of their buildings and legacies, from the physical to the intangible: courtly manners, attire, an elegance that turns even the smallest thing (such as daily family meals) into art.

In order to avoid hot and humid weather, travelers should pick any time in July to September to visit this city.

Nha Trang

As one of the most beautiful places in Vietnam, Nha Trang has been dubbed “the blue jewel of the East Sea” – a well-earned epithet. Its long beaches have turned it into an ideal location for tourism. It has played host to many major festivals and beauty pageants.

While temperatures in this coastal city are usually pleasant year-round, many sources still suggest that the best time to holiday here is between February and late April. July and August might be scorching, as they are the hottest months of the year.

Sapa

Sapa is a popular place to visit for travelers departing from Hanoi. Trekking enthusiasts and others go here for the unique terraced rice fields, where rice is grown on “steps” on the steep hillside instead of paddy fields.

Another mark that makes Sapa worth the visit for thrill-seekers is conquering the 3.143km-tall Fansipan peak, dubbed “the roof of Indochina” as the tallest mountain in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.

You can go to Sa Pa at any time of the year, but the most appropriate time when Sapa has beautiful scenery and is convenient for traveling is from March to May or from 9 to 11. At this time, the weather in Sa Pa is relatively mild, sunny during the day and cold at night.

Locals often flock to Sapa when there’s the slightest dusting of snow (a rare sight in Vietnam, which makes the national news). but the town is loveliest in spring (February – May) as flowers burst into bloom everywhere.

Cu Chi Tunnels

Just outside Ho Chi Minh City is a stark reminder of the most recent conflict that ravaged Vietnam, but also a monument to human ingenuity and resilience. This intricate system of tunnels was effectively utilized as a base for resistance fighters against American forces.

It is highly suggested that you visit the Cu Chi tunnels in the dry season (November to April) and in the morning, as the afternoons can get quite crowded here. It only takes about 1.5 hours to traverse and explore the tunnels.

Da Lat

Da Lat is one of the best cities to visit in Vietnam for a bit of European charm, including similar weather. If Saigon has endless summer, then the mist-wreathed Da Lat has the title “City of Eternal Spring”, as its temperate weather makes it unique against the backdrop of a tropical country.

From December to early March, the flowers of Da Lat bring new life to the mountain town. Many flower festivals are organized even as early as December, so you can schedule your travels around these to make sure that you can see the vibrant blooms.

Ha Giang

As a province located in the Northeast region, with a small area of nearly 8,000 square kilometers, Ha Giang is favored by nature for its population of forests – mountains – rivers, and diverse ecosystems. The growing tourism industry is gradually helping Ha Giang gain recognition among some of the most beautiful places in Vietnam when it comes to natural appeal. Because most of the land is covered in mountains, it has not been as farmed as other places – gifting visitors with pristine, untouched landscapes.

October to April offers the best range of activities for this province: motorbiking, trekking, and seeing the buckwheat flowers in November, all in pleasant scenery with little rain and cool air.

Ninh Binh

Compared to Hanoi, Ha Long, or other sites in the North, Ninh Binh is relatively less visited despite its fairytale atmosphere, with limestone mountains towering over meandering, gentle rivers, covered in lush greenery. The area is home to some of the most endangered primates in the world, as well as ancient temples tucked away in caves reachable after arduous climbs.

Travel times between late May to early July will not only let you see the golden rice fields ready to harvest, but also the incredibly fragrant and beautiful lotus ponds of Tam Coc-Bich Dong (blooming in June), where the aroma permeates the air.

Ba Be National Park

The name of this park literally means “three lakes”, but it is actually three connected bodies of water forming a single lake. Unique among Karst limestone lakes, Ba Be never goes dry even through intense droughts. The park protects over 65 mammal species, 233 bird species, 43 reptile and amphibian species, 106 fish species, and a staggering 354 species of butterflies.

If you can stand crowds, the weather in August and September is pleasant enough for a trip – but many others will get the same idea. Otherwise, spring and winter are good choices for travel times.

My Son

My Son Sanctuary used to be a major place of worship for the Hindu followers of the Kingdom of Champa, comparable to other sites such as Angkor Wat (Cambodia). Champa kings went here to pray, and their royalty and national heroes were interred in My Son. To this day, scientists are still trying to uncover many mysteries surrounding this area and how these buildings were constructed, including how the bricks were glued together.

Try to get to this sacred site in the mornings of January to August, after the mountain fog has cleared, to marvel at its beauty without suffering in the extreme heat or getting caught in the rain. Alternatively, all tours are gone after 2 pm, affording you a better experience.

Mekong Delta

The Mekong Delta is a world of water, where humans have learned to go with the flow instead of fighting against it. Boats, houses, and markets crowd the area’s waterways crisscrossing the land in a natural traffic grid.

Floating markets are in season between September and November, so try to travel during this time if you want to experience this unique phenomenon.

Cat Ba Island

Although hotels now line Cat Ba’s bay, the island mostly remains untouched and wild. You can see past the overdevelopment by traveling to Cannon Fort, which offers some of the best views of this pristine scenery, made up of jungled hills, the harbor, and the sea dotted with karsts.

The four best months to enjoy the weather on this island are March, April, September, and October.

Con Dao Island

Con Dao is a place of both tragedy and beauty, life and death. Tourists travel here to observe Con Dao Prison, where many Vietnamese patriots were imprisoned, forced to labor, and executed, but some also get the opportunity to assist park rangers in helping endangered sea turtles give birth and the hatchlings return to the sea.

While a visit to Con Dao is good any time between November and February when it’s dry, the wonderful experience that is sea turtles nesting on Bay Canh Island can only be observed between June and September.

Phu Quoc is the best place to visit in Vietnam.

Between October and March, the weather settles into smooth ocean waves, less rain, and cooler wind.

A range of activities at sea are available for travelers to Mui Ne between November and March: bathing, surfing, kitesurfing, and kayaking, all under sunny skies and in strong winds.
